Following President Patricia Stout's trip to Tibet, Lotus 88 Foundation created the Sangyala Project which pooled the donations of other Tibet trip participants to provide support for Buddhist nuns in Lhasa to build a road to their nunnery. The road increases their ability to sustain themselves through tourism, provides access for the village people to the temple, and provides the nuns access to local markets to sell and buy goods and food.

Foundation President Patricia Stout visited Yankton, South Dakota where she visited Foundation program partner Brave Heart Society. While there, Patricia saw how the Tipi provided by the Lotus 88 Foundation's Tipi Project was being used to provide much needed community gathering space. The Foundation made a new grant to support Brave Heart's "Nagi Ksapa" or Spirit Smart young program which promotes cultural knowledge, self-discipline and pride in Native identity through the creation of traditional pow wow regalia and participation in Native dances. The grant is to enable a group of Lakota/Dakota teenage girls in the program to participate in the Denver Pow Wow.
The First Tipi Projects Completed
The poles and materials for four Council Tipis were delivered to
the women and children on the Pine Ridge and Yankton Reservations
in South Dakota early in June 2004. These Tipis mark the return of the traditional
council gatherings that reflect days of the past. Everyone on the Reservations
was very happy and excited about their new sacred gathering places.
Women and volunteers erected the large 28 ft. tall structure onto the Great Plains.
